1. Introduction
Let me start with the words of our father of the
nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He said “By education I mean, an all round development
of the best in the man and child – body, mind and spirit.” The importance of education is quite
clear. Education is the knowledge of putting one's potentials to maximum use.
The second reason for the importance of education is that only through the
attainment of education, man is enabled to receive information from the
external world, to acquaint him / her with past history and receive all
necessary information regarding the present. Here comes the importance of a
school. Role of a school is to develop raw child to perfect. Purpose of schools
is irrelevant if child’s taste is not developed or child is not made to fit the
world. It is schools, which are responsible for child’s growth.
The curriculum of our B.Ed. education has given a chance to
understand and to be a part in the formation of a child in the school. It is
named as ‘Initiatory School Experience.’
For this we, five student teachers from BNVCTE, have selected
Government HSS, Kamaleswaram. The Initiatory School Experience was scheduled
from 06th January, 2014 to 09th January, 2014. First two
days are arranged in a way to acquaint with the school environment and day to
day functions and last two days are given to engage classes and interact with
students. Initiatory School Experience in our B.Ed. curriculum will provide us
the basic awareness of educational environment.

History
The
school started to function in Kamaleswaram on the 8 cents of land taken in
lease from the Government. Land (Pandara), by the Manager and Headmaster Shri.
P K Krishnapillai, popularly known as “Valiya Sir” in AD 1908. The other
teachers worked with him were Sri Gopalapillai, Sri Narayanapillai and Sri
Thottathil Narayanan. He ran the school for 35 years continuously as a
Kudipallikkoodam. The school was badly damaged during the heavy rains in 1943.
As a result of this climatic rigor the running of the school ran into rough
waters. Then few business men and neighbors took over the administration of
school. Using their profit from business and donation from people, they tried
their best to run the school. Government took control of the school in 1958
as a result of the formation of Kerala State, which made education universal
and compulsory. Furthermore Government took over the land on lease from the
leaseholder and handed it over to the General Education Department. The school
was upgraded to the higher level in regular intervals. Higher Secondary batch
was started in 1998 with 3 subjects. In 2004 Biology Science also attached with

16. Conclusion
As
per the words of Socrates, the great philosopher, education is “dispelling
error and discovering truth”. It was true that we student teachers were feared
to meet the children before this course. Initiatory School Experience helped us
to minimize our errors. It forced us to face the children and lead the classes.
And of course, dealing with senior teachers and the school environment enabled
us to teach with courage. Through this we could understand the environment of
school, students, teachers, staffs, etc.
We
felt that the system could function in a better way if the students were taught
in a way how we learn education through B.Ed. Teachers shared the difficulty of
giving special attention to each student when they are out of the classrooms. Lack
of space in GHSS Kamaleswaram prevents the growth of students in
extracurricular activities. Still the management and the staffs are trying to
give the best to the students.
We
were five student teachers from BNVCTE, who worked as a team to collect all
information needed to understand the school environment and the peer
discussions made us to feel comfortable. All of my team members were fully
participated in all the four days of Initiatory School Experience. We hope that
the experience and information gained from Initiatory School Experience will
help us in our B.Ed. course and those moments will remain with us forever. I
conclude the report with sincere thanks to the Principal, Headmistress,
Teachers, Non-teaching staffs and students of GHSS Kamaleswaram for their kind
support and guidance for making this experience a real treasure.
thank you so much
